ONE WAY to deliver yourself from selflessness is to give! People who give unreservedly have discovered a secret to overcome greed and possessiveness.
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content —1Tim. 6:6-8
I ONCE HIRED the services of a young man who is an expert of a sort. After we had agreed on the terms of payment, he started doing his own part of the deal so well, and I was pleased with his services.
However, in no length of time, I discovered that this young guy, aside from being adept at his work, is also imbued with godly values in the sense that he is a perfect example of selflessness—he is always willing to give!
On a number of occasions, he is willing to work without receiving any pay; and always willing to learn and submit to authorities. Many times, this guy would purchase things for his department in the church with his own money, without bordering me with the expenses.
One Sunday morning, he brought another man to attend the service in the church, and said to me, “Sir, I brought Mr T to attend the service today to start complementing my efforts”; then he added, “I don’t want us to lose him to another church because I consider him to be better than me in rendering the same services.” Can you imagine that?
CONFESSION: In Jesus Name, I add value to my church by becoming one of the 20% bunch of givers. I belong in the few group who don’t watch things happen; but give to make things happen.
